"SINGINGEST WAR IN HISTORY" EXHIBIT
A new exhibit entitled "The ( Singingest War in History" will 1 open Saturday, Oct. 29, in the Mitchell Museum at the South Jackson Civic Center in Tullahoma. The exhibit will feature the original 19th century sheet music collection of Sara Crawford Young of Tullahoma. Museum hours pn Saturday will be from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The 25 original sheet music covers represent legends of early American music such as Stephen Foster, composer of My Old Kentucky Home, Old Folks at Home. Old Dog Tray, Just After the Battle and others. Foster worked with famed promoter E.P.Christy and his minstrel shows. Added attractions will be musical performances by Mrs.
Young and her granddaughter, Hayley Crawford, at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Performers and museum docents in authentic period dress will greet and entertain visitors throughout the day.
Other museum exhibits will also be open for viewing. Mrs. Young will answer questions, and study guides with bibliography will be available. A pictorial history of Prescott Bottling will be on display during the Heritage Festival. Tullahoma history books by the late Paul Pyle will be for sale at $20 and will benefit the museum' fund. The museum is also open every first Sunday of the month from 1 to 4 p.m. guring Community Playhouse productions and other special events. Groups may'schedule tours by phoning 931-455-7239. Visitation to the museum is free, but donations are accepted. "If you have items to donate to the museum collection or wish to make a monetary donation that is tax deductible, please contact the Civic Center. office or me at 931-389-0545," she said. Volunteers are needed to help the museum meet its schedule of openings, she added.
