LAMBERT GRADE SCHOOL REPORT CARD

FRONT AND BACK OF LAMBERT GRADE SCHOOL REPORT CARD

Note photo of Abraham Lincoln studying by fireplace light. Abe says "I will study and prepare myself, and then perhaps my time will come." And his time did come! What an inspiring message for students in a one room country school in the Land of Lincoln.
Miss Dorothy L. Hite was my second grade teacher and she lived with her folks on their farm on the Etna Road near its intersection with Route 45. She was a very pretty, fine teacher but I had her as teacher for only one year for she got married in the summer of 1933 and by school regulations married women were not permitted to teach in the Country Grade School System.
William S. Birdzell was the County School Superintendent, his office was in Toledo and he set the school schedule, specified curriculum and school books, set physical standards for schools and made final decision on student promotion and graduation. He visited our school at least twice a year, inspected our facilities and gave us an inspirational talk.
Note my second grade schooling began August 29. 1932 and ended May 4, 1933.
My mother signed 7 times on the back page. The To The Teacher and To The Parents sections are well done and just as important today as they were in 1932/33.
